The Rocky Creek Igloo was built on Frazer Rd in 1942 during WW2. It was used to host entertainment and gatherings for troops stationed on the Atherton Tablelands as part of the Pacific Defence against the Japanese from 1942-45 until Victory Pacific was declared on the 12th of August 1945.

100,000 troops trained on the Tablelands and 60,000 people were treated at the temporary war hospital also on Frazer Rd.

After WW2 all buildings associated with the war effort at Rocky Creek, except for the Igloo were demolished or sold for removal. The igloo was leased to the Frazer Family who lived and work there until
1996 when Mrs Frazer gave the property to the then Atherton Shire Council. The Igloo sadly fell into direpair in those following years.

In 2012 the Rotary Club of Atherton saw the vision to restore the igloo and make it available for community use. Over one million dollars of
Rotary funds, grants, personal donations, in kind material and volunteer efforts have brought the heritage listed building back from the brink of demolition.

The Igloo now provides a character and heritage filled venue for people to meet, remember, celebrate and create new memories.
